Character Sketches 5/20

The thing about creating characters is that you can draw them countless times trying to perfect them. You can draw them from every angle, in every mood, laughing , smiling, crying, raging or being goofy. The fact is most comic artists spend a great deal of time filling their sketchbooks and stray pieces of paper with an assortment of heads. It's the go to doodle most times for me, tired, or just warming up, chances are I'm going to start by drawing a face.

These sketches are of some of my own characters; the exercise was simple, mess around with a brush and some Higgins Black Magic ink ( which is not my ink of choice, forcing myself to learn to like it) and get to my desk after a busy Monday at the day job.

It's been awhile (poor neglected blog)

I have been keeping busy, but not really been posting much here. Blog lazy I am. I did a little ink and brush character sketches tonight. Not the greatest, not the worst, just thought I'd share something now and again.

Autumn Watercolor Landscape Paintings

Fall is upon us and even though the colors haven't changed you can feel it in the cooler air and the shorter days. I have always loved autumn and the inspiration the vast color palette brings; my favorite subject to paint is autumn landscapes.

Here are three recent paintings I painted using some references I had from previous years. I'm ready to get out and enjoy a day trip with leaves crunching underfoot and  take in some cool autumn colors.

Figure Drawings

I haven't posted in a while. And I definitely haven't posted any figure drawings in at least six months. Sadly I hadn't made it to open figure drawing since the winter. Here is a handful of sketches from this last week.

Brush and Ink drawing of a character of mine. A Conniver. Bad news if you come across him.
